L. Subramaniam in Concert
Kalapriya Center for Indian Performing Arts and The Subramanian Foundation present world-renowned Indian violinist and composer L. Subramaniam in concert at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art (not an MCA sponsored event).  All proceeds will benefit arts education for children in Bangalore and Chicago.

Please join us for this unique opportunity to see Dr. Subramaniam in concert in an intimate setting just off Chicago's Magnificent Mile.  Dr. Subramaniam has been described as the Paganini of Indian violin, and fellow violinist Lord Yehudi Menuhin has said, I find nothing more inspiring than the music making of my very great colleague Subramaniam. Each time I listen to him, I am carried away in wonderment.  Dr. Subramaniams performances and compositions have pushed the bounds of traditional musical genres and pioneered global fusion, blending Indian Carnatic music, Western classical music, jazz, and world music.   Since 1973, he has released over 200 recordings and collaborated with musicians such as Jean-Pierre Rampal, George Harrison, and Al Jarreau.

Dr. Subramaniam has composed and conducted works for top orchestras and dance companies throughout the world, as well as Hollywood films.  In recognition of his exceptional talent and contributions to music, he has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and numerous other national and international awards.  Dr. Subramaniam founded and directs the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival, which promotes peace through the performing arts and creates a platform for global collaboration.

Proceeds will benefit the Subramaniam Foundation's and Kalapriya's work to improve arts education and access to the arts for children.  The Bangalore-based Subramaniam Foundation operates the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts, provides arts education scholarships, and works with children of the Lakshmamma Orphanage. With a focus on underserved schools, Kalapriya shares Indian dance, music, and culture with K-12 students through assemblies, art residencies, and after school programs in the Chicago metro area.
